Signal Mapping. We designed a nervous system.
We realized that for a phone to be truly "intelligent," it needed to connect the dots between the Multi-Device Ecosystem (MDE). We mapped out "Data Signals" to create a contextual brain for the phone. We asked,
With all the knowledge of user interactions/persona and past history, how can AI powered smartphones make these daily interactions more rich, meaningful, efficient and personalised?
ENGINEERING
"Anticipatory" UX
Our team moved away from the traditional "Command & Control" interaction model (where the user has to ask) to an "Anticipatory" model (where the system suggests). We designed a Three-Step Logic Flow that became the backbone of our "Now Brief" concepts:
SENSE (The Signal Layer)
Instead of looking at apps in isolation, we designed the OS to "listen" to the cross-device matrix.
Input: Galaxy Watch (High Stress) + Calendar (No meetings Friday PM) + Weather (Clear Skies).
SYNTHESIZE (The Context)
The system connects the dots. It understands:
"The user is burnt out, has free time, and the weather is perfect for a drive."
SOLVE (The Interaction)
This is where the Cool Texts come in. Instead of a generic "Weather Alert," the system generates a Proactive Brief Card:
"Hey Kashyap! You’ve had a long week and your schedule is clear until Monday. How about a spontaneous drive to Lonavala? We’ve found a route with zero traffic."
LOGISTICS NUDGE
We identified that Gen Z suffers from "Administrative Fatigue", forgetting small life logistics.
In fact, Forgetfulness became the primary problem space I worked on. I led the exploration and curation of everyday scenarios where users tend to forget mapping subtle contextual and behavioral signals that could help the model understand when and what to act on. Based on these nuances, we designed lightweight, proactive interactions that offload micro-tasks automatically, reducing cognitive effort without interrupting the user. One such interaction is outlined below.
The Scenario: You leave the office at 6 PM (GPS Signal) but haven't texted your cook/helper (Communication Signal).
The Old Way: You get home, dinner isn't ready, you get stressed.
Our Solution: A lock-screen nudge that appears before you even realize you forgot:
"Heading home? Don't forget to update Priya Didi so she cooks dinner on time tonight. Call her with one tap?"

end note
A Shipped Experience
By focusing on these human-centric micro-interactions, we turned raw data into emotional intelligence, laying the foundation for the empathy-driven interface of One UI 7.
Now Brief was never just about a feature; it was about changing the relationship between the user and the device. By shifting the paradigm from Application-First (opening apps) to Intent-First (seeing what matters), we helped lay the groundwork for the Ambient Computing era of Samsung.
One UI 7 isn't just an update. It's the moment our phones stopped being tools and started being companions. And I'm proud to say, We helped teach it how to speak 🫡
